Introducing the Midlands best keep beer secret The Midlands Beer Club is the result of a chance conversation a number of years ago between Richard Wheatcroft and Bob Taylor, a well-known Derbyshire publican. Both had come to the conclusion that there was an opportunity to market good quality bottled beer to a wider audience of customers that may not naturally visit a pub.
After a bit of research, visits to breweries and the inevitable 'tasting' of beer, we decided to launch a club and see what interest there was. We figured that if we do all the leg-work sourcing and aggregating interesting local beers and delivering mixed cases on a set day and time each month, then most people will share our enthusiasm and vision for the club and hopefully become members.
Typically, we select six different beers each month, giving the opportunity to enjoy each selection twice. Of course if you want a case of a particular beer then just contact us, and we will see what can be done.
By aggregating demand each month we can make it financially viable for the brewers to produce special batches to fulfil our members requirements. To achieve this we need to order two months ahead to book our production slot. So the more members there are, the better chance and wider range of beers we will be able to secure for you to enjoy. This is why we encourage members to sign up for at least six months, so we can plan ahead.
But its not all one way, enclosed with each case will be tasting notes to provide a bit of information about the drink, the brewery and a scorecard to rate the beer you have just enjoyed. This information will be fed back to the breweries and comments put on our website.
The last few years has seen a significant increase in interest and demand for local and regional bottled beers. Whilst some of these have appeared in the major retailers for brief periods of time, the vast majority of local bottled beers have not, so we think our proposition will not only benefit small breweries, but also put something back into the local community and of course something tasty to drink!
